hese proceedings bring together the papers presented at the 5th Porto International Conference on Research in Education (ICRE'26), held from 21 to 24 July 2026. The conference was organised by the Centre for Research and Innovation in Education (inED) of the School of Education of the Polytechnic of Porto. Throughout its fifth edition, ICRE has consolidated its position as a distinguished forum for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among researchers, academics, students, and education professionals, fostering the dissemination of scientific knowledge and the development of national and international research networks.
Under the theme "Quality Education, Well-being, Diversity and Artificial Intelligence: the Role of Research in Pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals", ICRE'26 provided a multidisciplinary platform for reflecting on the challenges and opportunities shaping contemporary education. The scientific programme featured keynote lectures, oral presentations, poster sessions, and thematic panels, encouraging discussion on key issues related to educational research and the innovation of educational practices, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The contributions published in these proceedings reflect the diversity of theoretical, methodological, and empirical approaches that characterised the conference, highlighting the breadth and quality of research undertaken by scholars from a wide range of institutions and geographical contexts. Collectively, these studies bear witness to the dynamism of educational research and its vital role in generating knowledge capable of addressing the contemporary challenges faced by societies and education systems.
