Faces of the Tide – Lives Networked between Matosinhos, Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim is a work that brings together life stories of men and women connected to the sea and fishing activities along the coastline of the Porto Metropolitan Area. Through an interdisciplinary approach that combines photography, text, oral testimony and documentary research, the book constructs a collective portrait of the fishing communities of these three municipalities, highlighting relationships of work, family, mobility, memory and shared identity. The project values maritime culture as tangible and intangible heritage, recording practices, knowledge, affections and social transformations associated with the sea. The publication constitutes an important contribution to the preservation of collective memory and to the understanding of the historical and cultural dynamics of the coastal communities of Northern Portugal.
