About the Press
Edições P.PORTO comprises the publishers Politema and Poli_fonia that emerged from the desire to promote authors, promoters and translators who are part of the Porto Polytechnic community, according to defined editorial criteria. Its role is the bibliographic, record and electronic edition of editorial content that that reflects and expands the cultural mission of P.PORTO.
Edições P.PORTO Editorial Policy
- Activity: Edições P.PORTO are dedicated to promoting culture, knowledge, and innovation, working in the cultural, scientific, technical, artistic, and educational domains.
- Objective: The main goal of Edições P.PORTO is to publish works of high scientific, technical, or pedagogical value that significantly contribute to academic development and the dissemination of knowledge in various fields.
- Priority Areas: Priority is given to the publication of pedagogical-didactic works, especially manuals and support texts for higher education, in addition to works that promote culture, innovation, and scientific and technological development.
- Organization of Publications: Publications will be organized into series and thematic collections, with titles reflecting the content scope (Arts, Business Sciences, Education and Sports, Engineering and Technology, Hospitality and Tourism, Health, and Media Arts and Design).
- Submission Process: Sumissions may result from spontaneous proposals by authors or from the Programa de Apoio à Publicação de Livros Técnico-científicos (Technical-Scientific Book Publication Support Program), as long as they address topics of editorial relevance. There will be also space for the publication of translated essential works not yet published, or those in need of revision.
- Language of Publications: Edições P.PORTO prioritize publishing in Portuguese, following the 1990 Orthographic Agreement, as also in English. However, editions in other languages will be considered, especially when justified by the target audience or authors.
- Selection Criteria: Publication proposals will be selected by the Editorial Board based on originality, scientific and pedagogical quality, as well as its relevance and contribution to the development of study areas and practice.
- Peer Review: All submitted works (after selection) will go through a peer review process. Each work will be evaluated by at least two recognized experts in the corresponding field, who may be internal or external to P.PORTO, with the Editorial Board inviting reviewers, accepting however suggestions from authors.
- Open Editions and Accessibility: Edições P.PORTO encourage open access whenever possible, publishing under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 license, aiming to democratize access to knowledge. Publications may be sold at a price adjusted to the specifics of the book market.
- Distribution and Partnerships: The best forms of distribution and commercialization of publications will be established, including partnerships with other publishers and bookstores. Edições P.PORTO will seek agreements and collaborations to expand the visibility and impact of its works in the market.
- Collaboration Protocols: Protocols may be established with other academic or commercial publishers to increase the penetration of works in the market and promote the internationalization of P.PORTO's academic output.
- Catalog and Promotion: Edições P.PORTO will maintain an updated catalog of its publications at edicoes.ipp.pt, ensuring broad dissemination and optimizing its presence in higher education and research.
- Integration into Academic Networks: Edições P.PORTO will seek integration into higher education publishing networks and associations that promote the strengthening of academic publishing and the defense of its strategic interests at both national and international levels. Currently, the Politécnico do Porto is a member of the Associação Portuguesa de Editoras do Ensino Superior (Portuguese Association of Higher Education Publishers).
- Store: Edições P.PORTO has a store at the Centro de Cultura Politécnico do Porto, in which some of its publications are displayed for sale to the public.
